NASA Night

September 25, 2020

This coming Tuesday, September 29, the Pattonsburg R-2 School is taking advantage of an amazing opportunity hosted by the Daviess County Public Library. Together we are giving our students in grades 7 through 12 the chance to not only listen live to a presentation given by a real NASA scientist via our virtual platform, but then to top it off, our students will also have the ability to interact with her and actually ask questions to her themselves!

Dr. Svetlana Shkolyar works at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and specializes in the laser-based tools used on the Mars Rovers. The Mars Rovers are currently on Mars trying to determine if there is any microbial life on the planet, and she will be discussing the astrobiological possibilities with our students. This is a once in a life-time opportunity, and we are so excited our students have the ability to partake in it and are very grateful for the Daviess County Library for reaching out to us. Due to the nature of this event however, we do need a signed permission form for each student in attendance. Mrs. Hulet has handed those forms out to students as of today, Friday, September 25, 2020 but if your student has forgotten their's, or they were not in attendance then, you can download the form here and send it in with your student on Tuesday. If you have any questions at all, please contact Mrs. Tuanette A. Hulet via her email, at thulet@pattonsburg.k12.mo.us.

In anticipation of this event, the Daviess County Library is also hosting a fun night this Saturday evening, their International Observe the Moon Night, from 6:30-8:30 pm.  They will be showing Wall-E in the basement parking lot on a 16' outdoor screen and serving snacks to those who call and request them. Following the movie there will be a moon viewing via Bob Riddle's (their NASA@mylibrary subject matter expert) camera telescope onto the big screen.  Telescopes will also be available for use by guests, at their own discretion--Clorox wipes will be available.  Masks are required.  Please contact them if you have any questions, this event is open to all students in Daviess County.
